Default Alliances - concerns.

- I searched, and found no big discussion concerning how alliances will work out.
- if a mod believes this thread belongs in the Factions forum, go ahead and move it, but I thought the issue of allying between guilds isn't entirely related to the new game, and I thought this would receive more discussion here.
- this is to discuss your concerns about the coming alliance system, even though we have limited information as yet.
-----------------------------------------

Alliances...we've heard a few things about them. An alliance formed must be between guilds of the same Faction, and there is a maximum of 5/6 (?) or was it 10 (?) guilds per alliance. Also, it has been stated that an alliance will need PvE and PvP to be strong. They will fight together in their Factions over the control of territory and can do Alliance Missions together.

My main concern is about what will actually happen as to these alliances. Will the 'elite' PvP and PvE guilds band together? I'm thinking that the majority of guilds will be looking to band together with guilds stronger or fairly equal to themselves. What does this mean? There will become different levels of alliances, because surely the majority of guilds will not want to ally with smaller and newer guilds. They will want strong allies. This will go all the way up through the different sizes, types, amount of activity, skill, and rank of guilds, resulting in the best PvE and PvP guilds allying, and the very good guilds allying, and the good ones allying, and the middling ones allying, and the not so good ones allying, and the small and insignificant ones allying.

Once the moulds have set, surely things will be very difficult to change? I'm assuming several bunches of 'elite' guilds will camp together, and stay like that. Yes, guilds grow in number, skill and activity and rank etc., but once they do and want better allies, 1) they will have to leave this old, moulded alliance, and 2) they will have to try to get into a new, better alliance, which will be difficult. As for the highest guilds, I see them simply forming together, and never breaking because they are the rulers above all others.

Though alliances will be beneficial to individual guilds looking to rise up, I foresee that alliance moulds up at the top of the ladder will be quickly set, and it will be very difficult to climb up through the system as the 'elite' guilds as allies beat all others.

I am not criticising, I am speculating. I have already pointed out how I am fairly thrilled with the whole Factions system (here)

Anyway, I think this is an interesting thing to discuss. I know, we do not actually have a large amount of information yet so the discussion will mostly be based on assumptions, but all the same I think this is a topic of concern.

Go ahead and share your views here.

Well, I have to agree. It would only make sense for the highest guilds to band together. We don't really know what these alliances are used for yet do we? Until then we can't really predict how that will effect the game.

But I like this talk of having to be PvE and PvP strong. I'm not much of a PvPer myself.

I was going to ask if you spelled mould wrong, but then I looked it up. It just looks strange.

I think you make a valid point, but it does have a few assumptions to it i'd like to point out:

Basically, we are assuming that the top ranked guilds (both in PvP and PvE, however you would choose to "rank" PvE guilds) know each other, and are on friendly terms. As has been discussed many, many, MANY times: there is a bit of seperatism between the PvP and PvE community.

That being said, what you said in your post could occur ... although I don't think it will be nearly as exclusive as random PUG "must be rank xx" stuff in HA.

For the sake of speculation , I think that a few of the top guilds will form very strong alliances, and I would hope that they don't all "clump" on one side of the faction-war. I see it as another thing like HoH, where instead of battling for favor, they're battling for the tax-rate of their faction.

Default Thoughts on Alliances

Well guys I think the thing we hafta keep in mind is the fact that we will be fighting for god "x" or god "y". Surely some of the Uber guilds will form an alliance and fight on the side of god "x", but theoretically some of the Uber guilds will band together and Fight for god "y". Having said this I am assuming that the weakling guilds will, in theory, be banded with Uber guilds due to the fact that they are fighting for the same gods...

The fact that both PvE and PvP play strong roles in this new system, I think, will only add to the allure of the game. If I feel like doing some PvE my time is not wasted on missions and quests I have allready completed. Even if the Uber guilds band together us mid-level players and those who are "insignifigant" will learn by playing with more people, and more people will be willing to teach these players because thier success will reflect on us by gaining ground and/or access to special areas...

When I think of Factions I think of the potential of the game...Imagine in the not so distant future...30 ally guild members struggling to hold a piece of ground against 30 determined enemy guild members. Each player doing all he can for the better of his faction...I can see it now....No more small 8v8 guild battles but gaint guild wars where the victory goes to the players with the most individual skill and not the Uber guild with Uber builds...

I see nothing but more fun for both PvE and PvP players with this new exsansion..but only time will tell...

When you think about it, if you are a guild in an alliance, naturally you will want your ally to be as capable as possible. So, as an elite guild, you would want elite allies who can contribute to battles against other elites. If you are not, I would imagine you would need to work your way up.

I guess I had always thought of alliances as temporary things- you ally for a specific battle/ goal, then the alliance goes away when that goal is achieved or battle won. Naturally, guilds will seek out the same partners the next time, but if you are talking 5-6 guilds in an alliance, it would seem like room for new participants would be open fairly frequently.

Of course, none of this is true if alliances are hard-coded and semi-permanent.

pls guys why can't you guys just wait to ask these stuff till 24 march?

You will have a pre-vieuw on how it works and alot of your answers will be answered, atm I don't think any1 knows or may tell you how it really works, the only thing you can do is read those revieuws over and over again.

I don't really see why bringing this topic back up, just wait 3-4 weeks and you can try it out before you actually buy the game

It's a topic of forum discussion. We're not making assumptions, and we're not asking questions, we're speculating about what will happen. We don't want anyone to tell us how it will work here. Sure, we might get information about this in coming weeks, but I'm not asking 'What information do we have?' I'm asking 'What are your concerns about how the alliance system will work out?'

I am betting my money on "Both quality & quantity will win".

In ww2 Japan's military system was "few elites, many rubbish", America was "Many decent". Who win? We all know.
